Description
Starting Bid: $300
Donated by: Steve Kennedy
This original oil painting by Wellfleet artist Steve Kennedy depicts the iconic F/V Michigan. Built in the 1940s, the boat was originally rigged as a beam trawler to catch haddock and later converted to fish for scallops as depicted in this painting. More recently, the vessel was decommissioned and sold for scrap. It was also one of the first vessels in the area to have a female captain! The piece is unframed, oil on linen mounted on birch, and the dimensions are 11″x14″.
Kennedy’s work is collected locally, nationally, and internationally, winning prizes at art shows, such as The Salmagundi Club (NYC), International Marine Art Exhibition (Mystic Seaport Museum, CT), and North Shore Arts Association (Gloucester, MA). He’s had multiple solo shows and his work is in the permanent collections of the Cape Cod Museum of Art (Dennis, MA) and Cahoon Museum of American Art (Cotuit, MA) among others. His work is featured in the Fishing Heritage Center’s gallery exhibit, Fishboats: Art of the Industry.
