Donated By Steve Kennedy

Description: Fish Boats, Midday Light is an oil painting on linen board, (11″x14″ unframed) and pictures New Bedford’s Coal Pocket Pier before renovation. Artist Steve Kennedy has lived and painted on Cape Cod since 1981. He attended Paier College of Art, moving to Cape Cod after graduating. He began painting in plein air year-round, quickly gaining recognition in the gallery scene. The waterfront made a huge impression on Kennedy early in life: watching ships and boats from a relative’s summer home in Portland Harbor, and exploring two nearby abandoned shipyards.  A Freddy Peterson painting of draggers in the fog at a Maritimes port hung in his parent’s home.  All of these sparked his interest working boats. In addition to his work as a fine artist, Kennedy has been documenting fishing boats since the early 1980s as one of the principal photographers for Commercial Fisheries News. Kennedy’s work is collected locally, nationally, and internationally, winning prizes at art shows, such as The Salmagundi Club (NYC), International Marine Art Exhibition (Mystic Seaport Museum, CT), and North Shore Arts Association (Gloucester, MA).  He’s had multiple solo shows and his work is in the permanent collections of the Cape Cod Museum of Art (Dennis, MA) and Cahoon Museum of American Art (Cotuit, MA) among others.
