Calling all fishermen, we want to hear from you!
New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center is partnering with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and NOAA Sea Grant to host a roundtable discussion for local commercial fishermen on Friday, February 14, to talk about ghost gear, net removals, and solutions to prevent hangs. There are thousands of wrecks in Massachusetts waters. Nets and line get hung up on the wrecks, causing financial loss for fishermen and structural damage to shipwrecks. If you are a local commercial fisherman, we want to hear from you!
The roundtable will be held on February 14 at 4:00pm at New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center (38 Bethel Street). Can’t make it on the 14th? WHOI is hosting five additional roundtables across the state. All meetings to be hosted at 4:00pm:
- Feb. 3: Net Your Problem (779 Church St., New Bedford)
- Feb. 5: Center for Coastal Studies Provincetown (5 Holway Ave.)
- Feb. 7: Fishermen’s Alliance (1566 Main St., Chatham)
- Feb. 10: WHOI Redfield Auditorium (45 Water St., Woods Hole)
- Date TBD: Gloucester
