Artist Talk & Story Gathering: Mapping Urban Renewal with Alex Houston
Location: New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center (38 Bethel Street)
Date: This Thursday, October 9
Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM (Presentation at 5:30 PM)

Join Alex Houston, the newest Artist-in-Residence at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, for an evening at the Fishing Heritage Center. Alex is using textile art to explore New Bedford’s history, focusing on the dramatic urban renewal changes of the 1960s and 70s. Come see historic aerial maps of the waterfront and hear about her unique project: a quilt where each block maps a city block and illustrates how neighborhoods were transformed or divided by new highway construction. Do you have a personal story of change from this era? Stop by between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to view the maps and share your perspective!
