SAFETY AT SEA

SAFETY AT SEA

Commercial Fishing currently ranks as the nation’s 2nd most dangerous occupation (the first is logging)

Fishermen are 37 times more likely to die on the job than policemen

New England’s waters are the most dangerous in the country

The tragic loss of the New Bedford scalloper F/V Northern Edge in December of 2004 prompted a renewed focus on safety at sea.

The Fishing Partnership offers free Safety and Survival Training.

To date over 2,500 fishermen have been trained learning:

  • Man-Overboard Procedures
  • Fire Fighting & Emergency Communications
  • Flooding & Pump Operation
  • Flares & EPIRBs
  • Survival Suits
  • Life Raft Equipment
  • Helicopter Hoist Procedures
  • Basic First Aid
