Modelmaking Demonstration: Captain Alan Curtis (Part 2!)
Alan Curtis returns to the Center to discuss his modelmaking craft! A career scalloper out of New Bedford, Alan Curtis has been making models of old-style Eastern Rig scallopers for many years, often on commission from boat owners. His models are featured in our newest gallery exhibit, Fishboats: Art of the Industry, and he’s coming to the Center to talk about his craft.
Drop in to the Center to hear from Alan from 1-3 PM on February 11. He will also be working on his current model and can answer your questions about the process! Be sure to stay for a while to check out the work of the rest of our Fishboats artists in the Gallery. Check out more of Alan’s work on his Instagram page, @curtisminiaturemarine and his upcoming YouTube channel.
This program is part of Fishboats: Art of the Industry. Fishboats: Art of the Industry is supported in part by a grant from the Westport Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Helen E. Ellis Charitable Trust administered by Bank of America, along with support from the Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, and New Bedford Cultural Councils, as well as BankFive and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
